Older Driver Refresher - Redcar & Cleveland

My father is approaching 70 years old and I'm hoping to book him on a older driver refresher course with his local authority. Hopefully on a course similar to the one we run in Herefordshire.

However, his local authority, Redcar and Cleveland don't appear to run a course. I was also unable to get past switchboard to speak to a road safety officer.

Please could anyone let me know if they are aware of any older driver courses in the Redcar/Teesside area?

Older driver refresher course

The AA launched a refresher course in 2010 - https://www.theaa.com/pupil/refreshertraining.do - he could try this.

older drivers

We are running an older drivers day at Cleethorpes in September, The AA have kindly offered us some of their Drive Confident courses.
Drive Confident is a two hour course given by an AA Driving School instructor, Participants can take the course as one two-hour session or two one-hour sessions, in their own car or in the AA tuition car. The course will be adapted to meet their needs; so if they are particularly worried about a certain aspect of driving (e.g night, motorway, heave traffic) that is what the instructor will focus on. Similarly if they just want a general refresher then that is what they will get. The aim of the course is to help nervous, lapsed and rusty drivers get back behind the wheel with renewed confidence and competence.

Contact the AA charitable trust and they may be able to assist you.

Older Driver assessments

An alternative could be to contact the Institute Advanced Motorists and book an Assessment Drive with a local Examiner. (support@iam.org.uk)

Older Driver Refresher - Redcar & Cleveland

Unfortunately our Council do not do this course. One of my colleagues thinks Hartlepool Borough Council may run such a course.

Older Driver Refresher

What about contacting the local IAM group and let him do the advanced test?
