SCP Schools Funding

As with most LA's the School Crossing Patrol service is under financial scrutiny. At present some school are managing to fund patrols through various mechanisms under formal SLA's. Has any other LA had success in ensuring services in full or in part, are maintained through this method? I appreciate that the schools funding legislation specifically prevents them from directly funding a HA function. However, some are able to do this by other means. Any assistance is appreciated.

SCP Schools Funding

Hi Paul - We have currently one school specifically funding the salary costs of a patrol, under the management of DCC. I have had sponsorship in the past through schools, it is a grey area and open to interpretation by the respective head teacher as to whether it is legitimate. However, it happens in Dorset, but they only pay salary costs, we pick up the rest of the tab and manage.

Hi Paul
Derbyshire County Council currently have 8 sites funded by schools with one of these being sponsored by 2 local companies. All are done via SLAs with the individual schools.

In Cornwall we have 4 patrols which have transferred employment to the school and we have a SLA in place. We are also in the process of setting up a new site where the school will pay all the costs and employ the patrol, this also involves a SLA. We have 3 sites where outside funding has been agreed from private sources but employment will continue with CORMAC (Cornwall Council).
