ADIs ineligible to instruct

As part of a young driver safety scheme we pay ADIs to deliver post-test driver training. ADIs have to pass a DVSA standards check at least every 4 years. Does any organisation take steps to mitigate against the risks of an ADI becoming ineligible to instruct and/or not having a roadworthy vehicle within this period? Thanks

Dave Lawson

ADIs ineligible to instruct

Not sure I understand your question...presumably the ADIs are self-employed - if so, it's their problem if they can't work and you can put the training to others?

Perhaps I'm missing something.

ADIs ineligible to instruct

we compel contractors to inform us if any of the key circumstances or qualifications change during the contract period.

In my experience of this, the regime involved:
Period inspection of ADI badge(s) and CRB certificate, annually scanned copies of vehicle insurance, licence checks with DVLA (by mandate with 3rd party service provider or by phone (0121 697 2989‬ with ADI/driver next to you) and routine/random vehicle oversight at point of training delivery.

We use ADI's for the driver improvement schemes. As part of the contract the ADI have to sign that they have completed vehicle checks each time they work for us and like others their circumstances haven't changed etc. In addition the police training section also do driving assessments and vehicle checks for us on a regular basis. Drop me a line if needed. Ruth

This is in essence a contractual matter. Your payment agreement should have a clawback clause if the ADI becomes unable to perform for any reason at all.

It should be pro rata for services performed up to the time they became ineligible or unable to perform. - set out the pro rata basis in advance so that there is no dispute about calculation or unfair terms should you need to action it.

You can check whether not an ADI's name is included on the ADI register here:
https://www.gov.uk/find-driving-schools-and-lessons using their own postcode.

Only current ADIs are listed, so any that have been removed from the register, or whose registration has lapsed will not appear.

Not all ADIs opt into the service, there are isntructions for checking those who have not on the same page.
