The 2019 conference followed a similar format to previous years, with a main and fringe programme running concurrently. In all the conference comprised 35 presentations, three debate/discussion sessions and five workshops – delivered by 57 speakers, facilitators and other contributors.
The opening address by Liz Brooker MBE, chair of Road Safety GB, was followed by a session comprising five presentations covering a range of ‘grass roots’ road safety issues including motorcycling, the gig economy, shared spaces and cars of the future.
Speed dating – which comprised a series of 12 five minute presentations from road safety practitioners – returned for a second year.
Day two opened with a 'hot topic' debate about 20mph limits/zones, followed by a session focusing on behavioural change.
Question Time has been a feature of National Conference for several years, while this year the conference closed with an informal chat show style session hosted by James Luckhurst and featuring interviews with Edmund King OBE, president of the AA; Lembit Opik, director of communications and public affairs, Motorcycle Action Group (MAG); Sally Lines OBE, chief executive, Road Safety Trust; and Bill Smith from Scotland Transerve who was presented with the 2019 Lynda Chalker Award at the conference.
On the final afternoon, delegates had the option to attend one of a series of workshops focusing on the Arility primary school teaching resource, Bikeability, telematics, Kagan learning techniques and the Modeshift Stars scheme.
the conference presentations are available to download from the conference website. In addition, the main conference presentations were filmed and a video of each presentation is also available to watch (link for presentations and videos below).
