It’s no secret that the UK’s road infrastructure leaves much to be desired.
Whether that’s because of potholes or inadequate road surfaces, plenty of councils across the country are cash-strapped and trying to contend with unhappy road users. Road markings are an often-forgotten factor.
They are important for safety, yet are overlooked as a piece of critical road infrastructure.
This research was carried out to provide local authorities with a better understanding of how drivers respond to edge lines, the impact on perception of safety, and whether more attention should be given to them over other aspects of the road.
