The final casualty figures for 2014 confirm a 16% year-on-year increase in road deaths.

The final statistics for 2014 confirm the provisional data published in June 2015 which revealed that 200 people were killed on Scotland’s roads in 2014, while the number of people seriously injured rose by 2% to 1,699.

In contrast to deaths and serious injuries, total casualties fell by 2% year on year, from 11,504 to 11,268, while child casualties fell by 3% to 1,034.

There were two fewer child fatalities and five fewer pedal cyclists killed than in 2013 but 18 more pedestrian fatalities. There were also eight more motorcyclists killed and four more car user fatalities.

The statistics provide updates on progress against Scotland’s road safety targets as set out in the Scottish Road Safety Framework.
