This report analyses the police recorded casualty figures in Wales for 2010.

The reason for this change is that these fatalities have been reclassified as being the result of natural causes, rather than the result of the associated traffic accident. The people involved were all car drivers and no other person was injured in any of these incidents. Figures for fatalities in earlier years have not changed. This change took place entirely within the South Wales Police area.
The latest road accident and casualty figures for Wales for 2010 show that:
• During 2010 there were 6,850 road accidents involving personal injury recorded by the police in Wales, 276 (4%) fewer than in 2009.
• These accidents resulted in 9,955 casualties, 399 (4%) fewer than in 2009.
Within this total:
• 89 people were killed on Welsh roads in 2010, 36 (29%) fewer than in 2009.
• 998 people were seriously injured in 2010, 98 (9%) fewer than in 2009.
• 8,868 people were slightly injured, a decrease of 265 (3%) compared with the previous year.
