ParticipantHello all.
The Wiltshire & Swindon Road Safety Partnership will be attending the Calne Bike Meet on 26th July. We would like to create a survey for use on the day, to gain a better understanding of the attitudes towards ‘the need for speed’ and the linked intentions of bikers in our area.
It is our intention to develop an educational intervention and any insight to the reasoning behind the chosen behaviour would assist us when putting our specification together.
Has anyone ever used a questionnaire / survey before to gain knowledge from the PTW community? Would you consider sharing the questions you used to gain useful information?
Thank you

ParticipantInteresting idea. Consider the massive difference between excess speed and inappropriate speed.
Does a rider and driver deal differently depending on in car-v-bike (I do the same on/in both), or is a rider only differ to driver only.
What I’m aiming at is to be cautious on building any bias in the questions which will then affect your surveyJuly 1, 2025 at 10:08 am #19149Karen Dobson
ParticipantHi Mandy, I would be interested to hear about your approach to the educational intervention. Would you be happy to share your initial ideas around your intervention? Here in Derbyshire we have a lot of motorcyclists and so we are open to new initiatives to work with the PTW community. We can always exchange ideas. Thank you.

ParticipantAbsolutely Karen. Please contact me again in August and I will update you with anything we manage to put together for a survey. At this stage I’m purely hoping to gather data that will hopefully help us understand a broad range of bikers mindset, intentions and attitudes towards speed. If we can understand the ‘why’ that sits behind some road safety behaviours, we hope to look at building an educational intervention. Thank you for your interest. 🙂

ParticipantThe Shiny Side Up Partnership and their facilitator Heidi Duffy MBE would be good contacts for advice on this and all other things powered two wheeler – https://shinysideup.co.uk/. She also facilitates the National Young Rider Forum.
