GuestDo any Local Authorities deliver training modules for employees which focus on safe driving (particularly safe driving around people walking or riding – bikes, horses, scooters, motorbikes etc.)? We’re keen to explore the idea of introducing an online training module for employees that they could complete in the same way as they are expected to do fire awareness training, information security training etc. and other training that may be relevant to their role.

ParticipantThis is a brilliant idea so and one feather in a background project I am working on (theoretical not with resources that will help you – sorry).
Given all the other less important mandatory training various organisations require their employees to complete every year or three year cycles it is surprising more organisations do not already include a road-safety component.
If a Driver/ Road Safety awareness and update module was launched and the NHS/ Military and all Public Sector organisations required their staff to complete it we would capture over 18% of the population which would represent a significant improvement in education/ knowledge/ awareness.
Please do let us know how you get on and if anyone knows there are already resources/ emodules etc out there please reply here or email me – would make approaching our own organisations easier if something already exists.

ParticipantI have produced a PowerPoint presentation in relation to employee road safety awareness based on my previous experience as a Police Traffic Officer for 30yrs.
The presentation is a work place based scenario that is factually based on several real-life circumstances but has been made into a fictitious scenario to negate any issues around personal data etc.
I have delivered this to businesses within the Staffs county and have tweaked it to fit the brief from each company in relation to workforce, location, needs etc.
It has always been very well received, and I have also delivered it to the Staffordshire County Council Highways teams as part of their road safety requirement.
I would be happy to share this with you (and the team at RSGB) if you think that it could be developed into an online resource that people could use.
