According to figures published by the Welsh Government in January 2018, 61% of adults walked at least once a week for ‘active travel purposes’ in 2016/17 – a figure that has fallen from 66% in 2013-14.
During 2016/17, 44% of children actively travelled to primary school, down from 50% in 2013-14.
The report sets out a series of recommendations – including a call for greater leadership from the Welsh Government.
The report also calls on the Welsh Government to work with professional bodies including developers and civil engineers, local authorities and the Welsh Government’s own staff, to tackle the cultural barriers to implementing active travel.
