In recent years, the road safety statistics team at the DfT has been working to develop statistics on drug-driving; currently only for those killed in collisions where toxicology information is available from coroners.

The DfT commissioned the Transport Research Laboratory to explore the feasibility of producing statistics on drivers killed in reported road accidents in Great Britain with different drugs detected, based on coroners data with data up to 2019.

This report summarises this initial work, updated with data to 2023, and the proposed next steps in developing it further.
