We have been contacted by our local Police regarding “Car meets”. Whilst they are having some success engaging with the local car groups and have managed to reduce some of the anti-social behaviour, they are having an issue with one particular group. They call themselves ‘Beyond City Car Meets UK (BCCM)’ and apparently there have been a number of incidents around the country with this group.

Has anyone had issues with the group?

We have been asked by the Police what we can do to help disturb this particular group. They are planning a meet in North Devon ealry next month. They held a meet last month in Exeter where a young child was almost killed by an out of control car, we have the CCTV footage of the incident which makes for disturbing viewing.

Has anyone used any particular regulation orders or anything else?

    Hi
We issues with car meets, I’m not sure if it was this group. We had disruption, damage to road surface and complaints about behaviour. The local town council implemented a Public Space Protection Order to ban car meets. That spoiled car meets for everyone of course but solved the problem. The PSPO seen as draconian by some but I think in part was a response to the £50k spent restoring the newly laid road that was damaged.

    hope this helps.

Thank you for your response, we are considering a PSPO but as you say it ruins it for other car meets.
