ParticipantWe have been approached via a colleague at the council for help with a small number of taxi drivers who have DVLA issued penalty points on their driving licence and are getting close to being struck off as taxi drivers. They already have driving assessments in place but we are wondering whether there is already a workshop that focuses on licensed drivers and particularly on careless driving & speeding behaviours already in existence that could be used. Any help would be most appreciated

ParticipantWe’ve not run it specifically for taxi drivers, but we do have a course we’ve used with companies who have drivers with points. Essentially it’s a bit like a standard speed awareness course, but geared towards drivers who have either reoffended within the three years and so aren’t eligible, or are higher end speeders who have therefore not been offered a course (who don’t necessarily respond to the same arguments as those within the range for a standard course).
The employers book them on either as individuals for one-to-one discussion/training or occasionally as small groups, and we also look at what pressures the organisation is placing on them/organisational culture which might be contributing to the behaviour.
If they think that might be useful they can contact me for a chat saul.jeavons@transafenetwork.com

InactiveI shared this with our Taxi Licensing manager and he’s provided the following response:
Bradford have approved suppliers for driver training and assessments. Predominantly for practical driving assessments, but we can use providers for additional training when issues are identified.
One of the training providers is TTC Group – Driver Risk Management Road Safety Training. They also provide online courses that focus on driving standards, speed, distractions, etc. We have found this training informative, interactive and effective in correcting poor standards. If you’d like the link to the course or to be put in contact with them please email me – john.redding@bradford.gov.uk

ParticipantWhat drains do you have about the drivers? Numbers, type of offences, relationships etc?
Would it be a genetic course or perhaps there are issues. List to hope with a common theme to be addressed, or perhaps a culture? Would a 5-10 group be more suited than a 15-20 size?
Were these types of behaviour traits identified in their assessments?, if not, does assessment need to be revised?
What have you considered as pro-active options for the drivers?
If you have not already done so, perhaps understanding what needs to be included may be more fruitful than a generic driving behaviour course.
By all means get in touch on background before deciding on a course content -
