KeymasterWe focus on transition yr6/7 – partnership sponsor “Streetwise” theatre tour for yr 7 – Step Up resource which was intended to link in with RouteGuard app:
https://www.sussexsaferroads.gov.uk/info/safer-for-others/step-up
and we do activity in yr6 Safety in Action summer circus on this. For which I’ve adapted a simple bookmark which summarizes info in apparently acceptable manner for yr7 to Uni students/language students. Contact if interested!

KeymasterWe use a resource called Ghost Streets. Ghost streets is a DVD resource focused around a teenager who lives in a world of distractions. The teen is hit by a car whilst chatting to her friend and ends up having an out of body experience meeting other teens who have been killed from various ways (mobile phone, no seatbelt, no cycle helmet)
The film is 10 minutes long, and then classroom discussion follows.
Happy to discuss with you.

KeymasterHi Karen
We run Grand Driver in Suffolk, and have successfully moved our courses to Zoom. The content we have kept pretty much the same, and the course lasts 2.5 hours approx. with a break half way. We’ve limited our numbers – down from 20 in the classroom to around 5 online, so that everyone can have some input easily. We’ve found lots of clients are happy to take part – but also quite a large proportion are opting to wait until we can meet in person either because they want the social aspect of meeting in a group, or because they don’t have the technology to meet online.
I’m very happy to discuss more with you if you wish,
Jane

KeymasterThat does help Rod, thank you.
Our sessions are normally 75-90minutes long. We can consider adding a break or shortening the sessions.
Many thanks,
Karenadmin
KeymasterHi Karen,
We hold a quarterly Introduction to Advanced Driving Seminar and have moved that online for the last two courses. We have used Zoom.
The first issue is the lack of natural feedback from the audience but by working a bit harder responses do start coming in.
The second issue is timing and we find that a break after an hour is needed, otherwise attention drifts.
In terms of content, as much dynamic content as possible helps to drive interest. By dynamic I mean video clips and animations.
I hope that helps.

KeymasterHi Gill,
Re your help request for Young Drivers. I am not sure if you are aware but we run an online programme for Year 12 students which includes a visit to their school/college from the road safety team plus Police Casualty Reduction Officer. You can register and have a look by visiting http://www.cambsdriveiq.co.ukHappy to discuss in more detail.

KeymasterWe’re planning a VR environment, initially for children, which could be adapted I think, if funding were available. We’d be happy to chat -and potentially share funding bids etc. You can get an idea at http://www.safewise.org/partner – although bear in mind this webpage is pitching to national partners to fund scenarios for KS1, 2 and 3, not young drivers… at the moment!

KeymasterGood idea – maybe could amalgamate other materials being developed for virtual sessions usually done in college. Our TiE provider is developing passenger stuff for yr 11 and fire service looking at doing SDSA online.
I’ve just collaborated with NHS Mindfulness group developing a short film for social media – in final edit – if you read this before weekend would be good if you could have look and comment. Trust all good in the East. All changed here.

KeymasterGill there may be a relevant resource here – a site called Driving Test Success which appears to have lots of content geared to passing the test. It can be subscribed to for a small fee by the student as an individual, and it is also available to ADI’s who can subscribe to enable THEIR OWN students to be provided with access free.I have no connection to this service but it sounded as though it might do some of what you have in mind. https://www.dtsanytime.co.uk/Login.aspx?goto=https://www.dtsanytime.co.uk/Learner/index.aspx
Second – I am currently endeavouring to LAUNCH a new Safer Driving FILM aimed at ALL DRIVERS (not learners as such). It runs for 70mins and considers 50 everyday driving scenarios that carry significant RISK and which can sometimes end badly. If you glance at my website here you will quickly get the idea – the is a SHORT PREVIEW of the film on the site (see menu) – here is the website http://www.stayingalivetodrive.co.uk – feel free to get in touch if you wish to know more. KeymasterGood idea. Would also be beneficial if there was a hazard awareness section, & particularly in respect to driving in vicinity of bike riders & pedestrians.

KeymasterAsked contacts in Sussex police – again not appear to be a problem but it has come down their chain of requests for info as well. there was a problem with tyres – part-worn – that arose a while back in similar vein.
