ParticipantInteresting idea. Consider the massive difference between excess speed and inappropriate speed.
Does a rider and driver deal differently depending on in car-v-bike (I do the same on/in both), or is a rider only differ to driver only.
What I’m aiming at is to be cautious on building any bias in the questions which will then affect your surveyAndy Garden
ParticipantSpeed limit signs aside and resident’s responsibilities nicely explained by Kendrick. Many roadside are there as a reminder to drivers, and most drivers on their regular routes never actually read the signs anyway.
The real challenge is of course finance, whether its the local authority or the land owner. How often is too often, and how often is not enough With the current dry period, here to the east, verges are not really growing, so paying for a cut would be wasteful. There is no easy answer. Of the slightly easier options can be done by the drivers, but then again its probably easier to get additional funding!!!!!!!April 26, 2024 at 10:11 am in reply to: Permanent roadside signs aimed at motorcyclists/drivers #18489Andy Garden
ParticipantHi Vanessa,
I’m not involved in setting out signs, however I’ve investigated way too many m/cycle incidents. One of their greatest risks, when they leave the road, is hitting roadside furniture – road signs.
Obviously same applies to other vehicles but the impact on riders is far more injurious. That would be my reservation if we were to add even more furniture at the roadside.

ParticipantHi Julie,
Bit late to the party, but as others say, Stats 19 has a value but not a value to everyone’s needs.
For your specific category, stopped, parked could also be included as a Stat, needing some real deep search if the individual incidents.
Are you prepared to pay for the info or for someone to do the search.
I don’t see this level of data being open and freely availableAndy Garden
ParticipantHi, a few years ago one of the truck magazines used to included braking details. In broad terms they tended to show HGVs were braking at the rates cars used to. With such variable weather conditions and then vehicle axle No / weight plus technology conditions, the best results would come from physical tests relating them to specific permutations. And that’s before we debate the reaction time used for the overall stopping distance in the HC! You could consider extrapolating some results, but they could fail quite readily if they were challenged.
Are we looking at something for a specific purpose or general data?
By all means ping me a message -
